"Twilight:" Ranked

Whether you love it, hate it, or can't stand it, everyone has at least heard of the Twilight saga. Written by Stephanie Meyer in 2005, the series took the world by storm once the first film was released. Twilight is an interesting series because it seems to have just as many genuine fans as ironic fans, and twice as many haters. Whichever side you fall on, Twilight was a cultural phenomenon of the late 2000's and early 2010's, so today, we're going to rank the films from worst to best. Teenage girls and soccer moms, enjoy.

#5: New Moon (2009) dir. Chris Weitz

New Moon is genuinely one of the most ridiculous movies I've ever seen, and an abysmal sequel. It is the first film to introduce Jacob and therefore begin the love triangle, but it lacks what made the original so interesting: Edward. During this film, Edward is missing for some reason I've already forgotten, cutting his screen time into a tenth of what it was in the previous film. The one saving grace is the surprisingly amazing soundtrack consisting of artists like Thom Yorke, Bon Iver, and Alexandre Desplat. Aside from the music, an underbaked plot and hoards of laughable CGI make New Moon easily the worst film in the Twilight Saga. I mean, who could forget, "Bella, where the hell have you been, loca?!"

#4: Breaking Dawn - Part 1 (2011) dir. Bill Condon

Breaking Dawn Part 1 seems to be the most widely disliked in the whole series, and while I slightly disagree, I can definitely see where the fandom is coming from. Upon release, critics pointed Taylor Lautner's particularly terrible acting, and little plot compared to the first few movies. Honestly, the majority of this film is just softcore porn and the story only picks up towards the tail end. So while I may think that New Moon is worse, Breaking Dawn - Part 1 is not far ahead.

#3: Eclipse (2010) dir. David Slade

I cannot remember a single scene of the movie for the life of me. The main conflict is that Bella wants to be turned into a vampire so she can have sex with Edward but he insists on waiting until marriage. That is the extent of what I can remember. Eclipse is not nearly as bad as the past two films but it is forgettable, which is arguably a worse offense. Let's just say that out of all the Twilight films this is certainly the most...mormon?

#2: Breaking Dawn - Part 2 (2012) dir. Bill Condon

The grand finale to the series that ultimately made over $3.3 billion at the box office. Breaking Dawn - Part 2 is tied with the first film for the highest score on Rotten Tomatoes which is unfortunately only 49%. It gets points for having suspense and high stakes, but the unfortunately, most of the CGI has aged horribly and the dialogue might be the worst in the whole series. The film won a near total sweep at the 2013 Golden Raspberry Awards, including Worst Picture. But despite all that negative press, Breaking Dawn - Part 2 manages to still be one of the better installments in the Twilight Saga.

#1: Twilight (2008) dir. Catherine Hardwicke

Although it wasn't a very high bar to begin with, first prize goes to the original. Directed by acclaimed filmmaker, Catherine Hardwicke, the movie essentially ruined her credibility while still being the highest grossing film of her career. As the reason for its crown status, first Twilight has a quality that none of the others have: originality. In the past few years this film has gained a real cult status and it's not hard to find someone who genuinely loves this movie and has fond memories of it. There's no doubt that its the best of the saga!
